Lake Wood Addition

This space was built as an attached dwelling unit to our client's daughter's home as his place of retirement. It gives him the freedom to live as he wishes, but still have support as needed. Providing a space that further fosters their relationship was a beautiful experience, and we are blessed to know them both.

When he first approached us to design this, he had several goals it needed to accomplish. First, it needed to look like it had always been a part of the house. He wasn't interested in random, disconnected architecture. It also needed to have a kitchen substantial enough for him to cook a traditional Italian meal. After many summers in the Tuscan sun, he wanted a space that reminded him of his favorite place. That called for a material palette we aren't typically using now- something warmer and a little more traditional. Lastly, although retired, he is still very active in academia. His home needed a substantial library for his volumes of books and resource materials.
